Trinity Church Council News & Notes
Below is a summary of key items and/or actions taken at the January & February Council meetings:
  • Appointed Dwight Schell as Treasurer and Nadine Frost as Financial Secretary for 2010-2011.
  • Appointed Luree Wiese to the Memorial Committee for 2010-2011.
  • Accepted the resignation of Jason Leimbach from the school board. Appointed Todd Mitchell as school board chair for 2010. Appointed Lester Dux to the school board for 2010-2011.
  • Reviewed the final kitchen committee renovation report/plan. Approved the kitchen committee recommendation to proceed with obtaining formal construction plans and contractor bids for the initial phase. Also authorized up to $6,000 from estate funds to cover fees associated with the generation of plans/bids. After formal construction plans and firm contractor bids are developed, the decision to start actual kitchen renovations will be presented to the Council and Voter’s Assembly.
  • Concerning the lawsuit filed against us by Chateau Development regarding our easement on the land just east of the school (the wooded area between the school playground and Deadmans Run)
    • Pre-trial conference was held Jan. 14th. Trial date was set for April 28-29th.
    • Voter’s assembly meeting was held Jan. 17th. The latest information on the lawsuit was shared and there was a forum for general questions/answers relating to the lawsuit.
    • In a letter dated 29 January 2010, we received a settlement offer from Chateau. The offer stated that “Chateau offers to settle by paying the amount of $35,000 to Trinity for a release (of the easement), but with the stipulation that the property will remain open space”. This settlement offer was considered by the Council and, after much discussion, a motion was passed to decline this offer.
    • Our case remains very strong and we will continue to work with our legal team to defend our easement position and prepare for our day in court.
    • We have spent just over $8,000 in legal fees, of which $5,000 was covered by insurance.

Trinity Lutheran - Pa Jok Campus Update

Trinity Lutheran-Pa Jok Campus update: Vicar Vincent Paul left for Sudan early Saturday morning, 1/9, to establish a worshiping community that will become Trinity Lutheran-Pa Jok Campus Church and School, secure land to build on and lay the groundwork for Trinity Lutheran-Pa Jok Clinic. These goals have all been accomplished and at their first service 60 adults attended. So far, 101 adults have committed themselves to join the church. The tribal chief and community are really excited about the project and worked very hard to clear the 4 acres of our land! The Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sudan and a representative of Lutheran World Missions have agreed to train a man, chosen by the congregation, to teach them from “Luther’s Small Catechism” and “I Have Good News for You” (the book I use for the Adult Class at Trinity-Lincoln) that we provided them. The next step is to begin raising funds to build a church and provide the transportation for Vincent to return permanently in January of 2011 as a Pastor. Hope you have already complemented Vincent on God’s blessings on his effort when he was in church the last 2 Sundays. If not, be sure and try to!

We also have good news from the Trinity Lutheran-Malow Campus, that Vicar Gabriel Bol established for us in Sudan. They are growing rapidly and have convinced 4 other, already established churches, to join ELCS (Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sudan).

As you know, the Pa Jok Campus is the fifth Trinity Lutheran Campus in Sudan (if you don’t count the ones started by Trinity Malow) in the last 2 years but the first among the Acholi tribe. Keep these churches in your prayers and thanks to all of you who supported this mission’s endeavor!

Vicar Paul will write a detailed account in the next Homepage.
Debt Elimination Campaign Update
As of Feb. 16th, actual contributions totaled $283,901, which includes $60,000 of debt forgiven by the Foundation. We’ve completely repaid our LCEF conventional loan, our 2008 operational loan, and our committed amount to Lincoln Lutheran’s “Live the Vision” Capital Campaign. The amount owed to the Foundation is down to $30,000, which they’ve agreed to forgive by July of 2010. Consistent with campaign planning, we’re now starting to repay our internal Restricted Funds accounts ($80,000 repaid thus far). To date, campaign expenses are at $2,661, well below the budgeted $5,000. Thanks be to God for the blessings bestowed on this campaign and thanks to everyone for their continued support.

I know it is rather early to be planning your May calendar, but the earlier we request tickets, the easier it will be to get them.

If the game is rained out they always give rain checks, and you can attend at the rescheduled time or another game with your ticket. If you find you can’t go we will help you find someone to use the tickets and reimburse you.

Do you have a special date or someone you would like to thank God for and honor with Altar Flowers? Please contact Dee Arp to reserve your special date at 477-2625.

Word and Sacrament
Trinity is a congregation that stands on God’s Word in and out of the pulpit.  We regularly celebrate the sacraments for the building of our faith and community.

Christian Education
Trinity supports Christian education for all ages, cradle to grave.  This support includes parochial education for our children in the form of a preschool, elementary school, Lutheran association middle and high schools, Lutheran colleges and seminaries.  Trinity is also committed to helping all its members grow through regular and diverse Bible studies meeting at various times and various places, some lasting only 4 weeks while others lasting 2 years.

Traditional Worship
Trinity continues to worship in a liturgical Lutheran manner.  Though we celebrate mostly with organ music and chanting, bell choirs and trumpets, are also open to drama, visuals and some contemporary music.  We consistently try to keep worship stimulating and effective, while maintaining our Lutheran integrity and tradition.

Caring Relationships
Trinity is a caring community that seeks to build relationships among its members and extend those relationships to others uniting them to Christ and His body of believers.  Emphasis is placed on assimilating new members in and keeping active members from becoming inactive.
