Word and Sacrament
Trinity is a congregation that stands on God’s Word in and out of the pulpit.  We regularly celebrate the sacraments for the building of our faith and community.

Christian Education
Trinity supports Christian education for all ages, cradle to grave.  This support includes parochial education for our children in the form of a preschool, elementary school, Lutheran association middle and high schools, Lutheran colleges and seminaries.  Trinity is also committed to helping all its members grow through regular and diverse Bible studies meeting at various times and various places, some lasting only 4 weeks while others lasting 2 years.

Traditional Worship
Trinity continues to worship in a liturgical Lutheran manner.  Though we celebrate mostly with organ music and chanting, bell choirs and trumpets, are also open to drama, visuals and some contemporary music.  We consistently try to keep worship stimulating and effective, while maintaining our Lutheran integrity and tradition.

Caring Relationships
Trinity is a caring community that seeks to build relationships among its members and extend those relationships to others uniting them to Christ and His body of believers.  Emphasis is placed on assimilating new members in and keeping active members from becoming inactive.

May -- 2nd Petition: Living in the Kingdom of God | June -- 3rd Petition: Free Will? Depending on God’s Will!!
July -- 4th Petition: Acknowledge and give thanks to God who provides our daily bread.
August -- 5th Petition: Forgiveness – a FREE gift! | September -- 6th Petition: The struggle and the fight
October -- 7th Petition: The Lord’s deliverance | November -- Conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer: Submitting to the Creator of the Universe | December – The Holy Spirit prays on our behalf.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Jesus used the Lord’s Prayer for teaching purposes. In Matthew 6 Jesus says, “This then is how you should pray.” And in Luke 11 the disciples say to Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” And Jesus said to them “When you pray, say….” The Lord’s Prayer is pedagogical in nature.

The question is often asked, do Christians need to learn how to pray. In some respects praying is a natural part of the Christian life. In the scriptures we learn that Christians have a connection with the Lord through prayer that other people do not possess. “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.” (John 15:7) This passage means that the positive answering of a prayer is dependant upon the Word of God in a person’s life. If God’s Word is present and active then what a person prays for changes. God’s word subjects a person’s will to God’s will. Unless a prayer is consistent with God’s will it will not be answered in the affirmative.

In this life we are weak according to the flesh. The reality is that we often do not know how to pray. We can confuse our own will with that of God’s and pray for things according to the flesh rather than according to the Spirit. When this happens God’s answer will be ‘no’. His will is what governs God’s responses to our prayers.

The Lord’s Prayer demonstrates how to pray according to God’s will.
Our Father who art in heaven:
God wants us to call upon him.
Hallowed be thy name:
God wants us to recognize and honor his name in our lives – for where he puts his names is where he makes himself present.
Thy Kingdom Come:
God wants to bring us into his Kingdom now and in eternity
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven:
God wants us to submit to his will and believe that he has our best interests in his hand.
Give us this day our daily bread:
God wants to and will provide for our daily needs.
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us:
God wants to forgive our sins and he wants us to be forgiving.
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
God wants to preserve us from the temptations that lead to sin and promises to always give us a way out.

13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1Co 10:13 ESV)

As we pray for these things we know that we are praying according to God’s will and that our prayers will be answered in the affirmative.

It is good to pray the Lord’s Prayer exactly as it is written. We can pray these petitions and know that God will answer this prayer with a resounding “Yes.” There is no doubt. It is also good to use these petitions as the basis for many prayers. Indeed, each petition could be prayed upon for much time -- as we will see in the coming months.

In Christ,
Your Board of Stewardship
SCHOOL NEWS

This quarter at TLS, we are hosting five (count them) student teachers – two from SCC (Southeast Community College), two from CU (Concordia University – Nebraska) and one from South Korea.

For the second year, Trinity is hosting a KO*AM (Korean*American) Student Teacher. KO*AM is an educational agency that deliberately places students (from 4th – 12th grade) and now student teachers in Christian schools in America. Trinity Lutheran qualifies as a KO*AM member school as we are a S.E.V.I.S. (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) school which means we can have international students enrolled as well as international student teachers.

Hyen Junghye (or Claire Hyen) is based in our 5th grade classroom, but she will be working in many of our classrooms. She is currently attending Hankook Kyowon University of Education in South Korea. This is not her first time outside of South Korea, nor is it her first time in America; but it is her first time to Nebraska. Claire is here to experience what life is like in an American school, which will help her as she prepares to become an early childhood teacher.

My wife, Melanie & I are hosting her and we are learning as much from her as she is learning from us. Please introduce yourself to her when you see her at school or church. We pray God’s richest blessings upon her and her time with us.

Next month … National Lutheran Schools Week schedule of activities …

PARENT – TEACHER LEAGUE (PTL) MEETING
All Parents & Guardians of students at Trinity are invited to attend the next PTL (Parent – Teacher League) meeting on Thursday, February 2nd in the school library at 6:00 p.m.

SOS (Support Our School) Night
The next SOS night for our school will be held on Thursday, February 9th at Wendy’s (930 North 48th Street) from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. When you order -- tell them, “I’m from Trinity.” Then turn your receipt in to the TLS decorated box & a certain percentage of the proceeds goes to our school – it’s that easy!

Trinity Finances
To keep the congregation informed of the current financial condition at Trinity, the Stewardship Board has put together this monthly and year to date summary of income and expenses. Year to date totals are through the month of December 2011.

Respectfully, Trinity Stewardship Board.
Debt Elimination Campaign Update

As of January 17th, actual contributions totaled $438,790. With those receipts, we’ve completely repaid all of our debts and, consistent with campaign planning, have applied remaining receipts to special projects - Phase I church kitchen remodel, school roof repair, and repair of the school gym blocks have all been completed. Two special projects remain (that were not part of the original campaign planning). One is required fire code updates (fire doors and exit signs) at the church (anticipated cost $40,000). The second is church kitchen Phase 2 updates (approved by the Voter's Assembly in April), with a portion of the funding ($37,000) to come from this campaign. The total amount for those projects from campaign funds is $77,000. We've received just over $61,000, so an additional $16,000 is needed. The Voter's also decided to extend the campaign for an additional year (through June 2012) to allow additional time for contributions to be made. To date, campaign expenses are at $2,861, well below the budgeted $5,000. Thanks be to God for the blessings bestowed on this campaign and thanks to everyone for their continued support.

Freedom to Serve, Freedom to Teach, Freedom to Grow ……………. PRICELESS!!!

Homebound Callers:
Seven visiting teams made 146 calls, visits or sent cards during the month of December. In the 4th quarter of the year 2011, there wre 384 calls made. Anyone interested in this ministry, please call Tom Pruitt at 402-474-0606 for more information.
REMEMBER OUR MISSIONS --
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) has gathered $100 million in mites since the founding of the organization in 1942! By the grace of God, faithful supporters from across the nation have given their mites to achieve the LWML’s ongoing mission goal. This amazing total combines funds from forty districts and the national level of the LWML.
Supporters today are linked with the founders of LWML, who gathered in Chicago nearly 70 years ago and have supported Christian outreach in 42 countries on five continents through the years. As Lutheran Women in Mission today celebrate this milestone, they join with those women of the past, as they continue to fill Mite Boxes to encourage the ongoing spread of the Gospel into the future. LWML President Kay Krecklau shared, “Today we look forward to the mission work of the Lord set at the 2011 LWML Convention with a mission goal for the 2011-2013 biennium of $1.825 million to support 19 grants. While the amount of funds raised has increased over the years, the mission today is the same – helping to reach out to share the joyful news of Christ around the world. Lutheran Women in Mission today share the same mission consciousness – mission education, mission inspiration and mission service as they join the early leaders to joyfully serve the Lord.”
How can you help? Your gift of mites will provide funding to assist LWML in continuing its heritage of mission-ministry in the church, the community and among the people of the world. Thank you for continuing to fill your Mite Box. Look for the big Mite Box in the narthex on the second Sunday of each month.
QUILTS FOR MISSION
Everyone is invited to join us in the Fellowship Hall on the first Thursday of every month to tie quilts. No previous experience is needed and all help, weather for a hour or 4 hours, is appreciated!
From the Kichen Committee: The Kitchen is under construction. Thanks for your patience.
Couples Club: will hold their annual anniversary Luncheon on Saturday, February 25th at noon at The Knolls. The Calling Committee will contact members to verify reservations and the cost.
